Now that you have gathered all the ingredients, let us learn how to prepare veg burger at home.

Step 1: Preparing the Veg Patty Mixture

Mix all the vegetables (except potatoes) with ¼ teaspoons salt and steam on a medium flame for ten minutes.

Once done, transfer them to a large mixing bowl

Throw in the mashed potatoes and add cumin powder, garam masala, turmeric, chilli powder, chaat masala, salt and coriander leavers.

Mix everything to ensure uniform distribution of the spices.

Add ½ cup bread crumbs. This will absorb the moisture the vegetables release and prevent the patty from crumbling when put in the oil.

Step 2: Prepping the Slurry and Breadcrumbs

Mix the cornflour, all-purpose flour, and water in a flat dish. Using a balloon whisk or a fork, make a lump-free slurry of medium consistency. Evenly spread out the bread crumbs on a plate or a dish.

Step 3: Frying the Patties

The secret of a good vegetarian burger lies in its patty.

Make a small ball out of the veg patty mixture. Pat this on your greased palms to make thick, flat cutlets.

Dip it into the slurry and then coat it with the breadcrumbs.

To a frying pan, add some oil for shallow frying the patties.

Now, place this in the pan. Fry it for a couple of minutes on a medium flame, then flip it to fry the other side of the patty. You may do this a few times to get a crispy, crunchy crust on your patty.

Step 4: Preparing the Burger Sauce

A delicious sauce can elevate the taste of a vegetarian burger recipe. Mix the mayonnaise, tomato ketchup, chilli sauce, salt and pepper to make a burger sauce. You can skip or add other sauces of your choice to this.

Step 5: Toasting the Burger Bun

Before you assemble the burger, toast the bun for a few seconds. Cutting it in half and lightly buttering it before toasting can further enhance its taste. If you are making a vegan veggie burger, you can use oil to toast the bun.

Step 6: Assembling the Burgers

Spread the burger sauce evenly on both halves. Place the veg patty on the bottom half of the bun and top it with sliced tomatoes, onions and cucumber. Place a cheese slice over this and cover it with the top half of the bun. Your delicious, homemade, meatless veggie burger is ready!!
